At this time, both the Minden and Haliburton Emergency Departments are open.
Remember to 'Stop-Check-Go' before Visiting our Emergency Departments
Anyone in need of serious medical attention (for chest pain, severe blood loss, head injury, or shortness of breath) should call 911. If an Emergency Department is temporarily closed, emergency medical services will take you to the nearest ED.
With on-going critical physician and nurse staffing shortages that may require temporary closures of Haliburton Highlands Health Services (HHHS) Emergency Departments, HHHS is asking the community to ‘Stop-Check-Go’ before they visit an Emergency Department this summer.
If it’s not life-threatening, you should:
• ‘Stop’ and see if self-care (for a twisted ankle, sunburn, minor scrapes, or seasonal allergies) or a call to their doctor (for chronic symptoms, back pain, or stomach aches) can address your needs
• Next, ‘check’ to make sure the Emergency Department you plan to visit is open, by calling HHHS at 705-457-1392 and using extension 2555, visiting the website at hhhs.ca, or visiting the Facebook or Twitter pages.
• If your need is urgent, you can then ‘go’ to the Emergency Department nearest you.
HHHS continues its work to retain its current staff, recruit new staff members, and explore all options and alternatives to deliver high-quality care to residents, cottagers, and visitors of Haliburton County and the surrounding area.
