Haliburton Highlands Health Services (HHHS) Board of Directors is happy to announce that Veronica Nelson has officially accepted the role of President and CEO of HHHS. This role officially commences on December 4th, 2023.
On June 12th of this year, Veronica joined the HHHS team as Acting President and CEO, to help lead our community and staff following the consolidation of the Minden emergency department. Although incredibly challenging, Nelson took a collaborative and community-first approach, immediately organizing a Town Hall series days after beginning her role.
“For the last 20 years, I have been part of HHHS in various capacities and have seen firsthand the impact this health organization has on the community, its residents and staff. I feel privileged to be entrusted with this responsibility. In the time that I have been part of the HHHS team, I have been humbled, inspired, and amazed by the staff, physicians, volunteers and board members. I cannot wait to continue this work alongside each of them.” Veronica shares.
Nelson spent time as a Medical Radiation Technologist at HHHS in 2006 and established the Integrated Director of Diagnostics role in 2012 between Ross Memorial Hospital (RMH) and HHHS. Since beginning her role as HHHS’ Acting CEO, Nelson has had tremendous impact on the organization. She has been instrumental in partnering with local health service providers to bring new care services to the Minden site, continued to play a vital role in bringing CT and Mammography to HHHS, seeks, listens to and actions feedback from the community and staff, and walks the talk of her open-door policy. Nelson’s experience as Hospital Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at RMH and her expertise overseeing the diagnostic Imaging, laboratory, procurement and master planning at RMH and HHHS have helped shape and inform the patient/staff-first leader that she has become. Nelson departs from RMH after nearly 24 years of service, with lasting friendships and connections with the staff and community.
“This moment in my career is bittersweet. I wish nothing but the absolute best to my RMH family and look forward to continued collaboration with them. So much of what I have learned in my career has come from my time and teams at RMH. I will truly miss each and every one of you!”, Veronica says.

I know I can safely speak for everyone when I say that the staff and physicians of HHHS are over the moon to have you on the team and look forward to continuing to optimize health and wellbeing in Haliburton County under your immense care.
