For Immediate Release
February 15, 2022
The Haliburton County COVID-19 Community Assessment Centre will cease its regular reporting of positivity rates, given the on-going low levels of formal testing being conducted in the County and the related challenge of providing an accurate representation of community spread.
As publicly-reported COVID-19 case numbers are an underestimate of the true spread of the virus in Haliburton County, Assessment Centre partners must continue to emphasize how important it is for everyone to follow public health measures and minimize spread.
These measures include frequent handwashing, wearing a face mask in public spaces, limiting social gatherings, and maintaining social/physical distancing.
Moving forward, Assessment Centre partners will issue community updates on an as-needed basis.
Expanded Eligibility for COVID-19 Testing and New Treatment Referral Process
Although testing at the Assessment Centre remains limited to individuals who are eligible based on criteria from the Ministry of Health, that eligibility has now been expanded to include patients who may be candidates for new COVID-19 treatments. These treatments will be made available in a timely manner by referral to a treatment site outside Haliburton County.
Anyone who is immunocompromised OR unvaccinated and pregnant OR unvaccinated and 50 years of age or older should call the Assessment Centre as soon as they start to feel unwell with COVID or cold-and-flu-like symptoms. The Centre will indicate if they qualify for testing and referral to a treatment centre.
To book an assessment, call 705-457-1212 (press option 6 or 0 during office closures). Appointments are scheduled Monday to Friday, from 9 AM to 3:45 PM. No walk-ins are accepted at this time. On evenings and weekends, you may be seen at your local Emergency Department.
Anyone with severe illness (significant difficulty breathing, chest pains or pressure, new onset of confusion or difficulty waking up) should go to their nearest Emergency Department.
The Assessment Centre can also provide support to community members who may not be eligible for treatment and testing, by answering COVID-related questions and completing a non-emergency Doctor assessment. Call 705-457-1212 (press option 6 or 0 during office closures) for more information and an initial assessment. You may then be provided phone counselling or an appointment with a Nurse, Physicians’ Assistant or Doctor based on your needs.
