Physiotherapy
What we do
The goal of physiotherapy is to maintain, restore and maximize strength, function, movement and overall well-being. Physiotherapy Assistants (PTAs) are trained to assist with the provision of physiotherapy services under the direction and supervision of a registered physiotherapist.
As primary health care professionals, physiotherapists (also known as PTs or physical therapists) combine in-depth knowledge of how the body works with specialized hands-on clinical skills to assess and diagnose acute and chronic injuries, illnesses and conditions. With your diagnosis in mind, physiotherapists can work with you to create a tailored, client-centred treatment plan which may include:
Therapeutic exercise
Functional activity training/re-training
Education on pain management
Modalities including hot/cold packs, TENS (transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation) and ultrasound
Joint mobilization
Early/functional mobilization, O2 titration, discharge planning for acute care patients
General Information
The Physiotherapy Department is staffed by two full-time physiotherapists and three full-time physiotherapy assistants. Physiotherapy services are provided to in-patients (acute care), out-patients (clients of the physiotherapy clinic), and both HHHS Long-Term Care homes (Hyland Crest and Highland Wood). Out-patient physiotherapy services are offered at the Haliburton and Minden sites with morning and afternoon appointments available. In-patient physiotherapy services are only available to patients of the Haliburton Hospital Acute Care Unit.
