As we approach June 1, the Haliburton Highlands Health Services (HHHS) Board of Directors thought it was important to share our thoughts about the difficult decision to consolidate emergency services at the Haliburton site.
Most importantly, we have been disturbed by reports of HHHS staff facing harassment as a result of this difficult situation. It is taking all of the energy and focus of our dedicated staff and leadership to execute the consolidation plan, and ensure it is successful in delivering the safe, quality, and reliable emergency care our community depends on.
We need our very dedicated, experienced, knowledgeable staff to be supported in the job they have to do. We ask that the community not direct their anger towards the people who are doing the best they can in a very challenging environment, and instead, focus on channeling our collective energy into finding longer-term, sustainable solutions to the healthcare crisis.
