Dear Community,
On June 3, 2025, the Haliburton Kawartha Northumberland Peterborough (HKNP) Health Unit declared
Haliburton Highlands Health Services’ (HHHS) Acute Care to be in a Respiratory Outbreak. The outbreak
will be reassessed on Monday, June 9, 2025.
Currently, three patients have respiratory symptoms such as hoarse voice, runny nose, sore throat, nasal
congestion, and sneezing. All symptomatic patients have been isolated to their rooms and placed on
droplet and contact precautions.
The team at HHHS are working diligently to reduce the spread of this infection. Increased PPE (Personal
Protective Equipment) is being used by staff to reduce the risk of transmission, and any patients affected
by the outbreak are being isolated in their rooms to prevent any further spread of the virus. Enhanced
cleaning measures have also been put into place. A huge thank you to the Acute Care team for doing all
they can to keep our residents and their families safe and comfortable during the outbreak.
HHHS understands the importance of visits to loved ones even during an outbreak, however, visitors
should be aware that there is a higher potential risk of acquiring illness when visiting the hospital during
an outbreak. You may want to consider rescheduling your visit for another time or visit through virtual
means, as only essential visiting is permissible at this time.
As always please don’t hesitate to call 705-457-1392, extension 2224 for patient related information.
Should you have any other questions or concerns please reach out to Tori Miscio, Manager Acute Care at
extension 2223.
Sincerely,
Jennifer Burns West
Chief Nursing Executive, HHHS
